Experts have warned delays are likely given how Indonesia has structured the export policy, which requires the involvement of state-run electricity firm PLN and a local content requirement (TKDN).

ingapore will have to keep waiting before it can receive green electricity from its counterparts in Indonesia, as experts point out that exporting renewable energy out of the country remains a challenging process.

Experts have warned that Indonesia could face delays in realizing its exports with consequences weighing more on itself rather than its counterparts in Singapore.

“From the start, I saw this would be tough to realize,” Dhenny Yuartha Junifta, a researcher at the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (INDEF) told the The Jakarta Post on Feb. 15.

Singapore is seeking to import 4 gigawatts of low-carbon electricity by 2035 with around half of it sourced from Indonesia, according to the Singapore Energy Market Authority (EMA).

In September last year, the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with its counterpart in Singapore to export electricity to the city-state.

At least three subsidiaries of major Indonesian energy conglomerates are set to take part in the projects, namely Pacific Medco Solar Energy, Adaro Clean Energy Indonesia and Energi Baru TBS, who propose building around 21 GW of electricity storage and 11 GW of peak capacity solar power plants.
