he Communications and Information Ministry has extended the period for foreign online travel agencies (OTAs) operating in Indonesia to register as electronic system providers (ESPs).
Usman Kansong, the ministry’s director general of public information and communication, told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday that the government had pushed back the due date for the platforms to register to the end of March from initially this Wednesday.
“We’re giving the online travel agency services time until the end of this month to register, and we’ve been in discussions with them not just by letter but also through face-to-face meetings,” Usman said.
He added that the OTAs had conveyed their commitment to register themselves in accordance with Indonesian regulations.
Communications ministry Regulation No. 5/2020 requires that ESPs, or digital platforms that provide services in Indonesia, submit company information including the platform’s name and URL, the types of personal data processed and the location of the company’s data-management or processing facilities.
Usman said two OTAs had registered themselves so far: San Francisco, United States-based Airbnb and Singapore-based Agoda.
Another four still needed to do so: Amsterdam-based Booking.com, Klook, Germany’s hotel search company Trivago, and Trivago’s US-based parent Expedia Group.
