ndonesia plans to construct a floating solar power farm in the reservoir of Jatigede Dam in West Java with an expected electricity output up to 100 megawatts (MW).

Jatigede Dam Management Unit (UPB) head Yuyu Wahyudin said on Friday that after its completion, the project would be connected to hybrid power plants in Cirata and Saguling reservoirs, both also located in West Java.

“[Jatigede power plant] will support other sources such as from Cirata and Saguling. Later the electricity will merge into one [network], entering the Java-Bali interconnection system,” Yuyu said on Friday, as quoted from Bisnis.

The floating solar plant would add to the existing hydroelectric power plant at the Jatigede Dam, which has a capacity of 110 MW. Together, the two will generate a total of 210 MW peak of electricity.

The construction of the Jatigede floating solar farm will be carried out by PT Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of state-owned electricity company PLN. The project is estimated to require US$1 million per MW in investment.
