usiness leaders have commended the appointment of Rosan Roeslani as the new investment minister, pointing to the former diplomat’s long experience in business and in representing business interests.
Speaking to The Jakarta Post at the handover ceremony held at the Investment Ministry in Jakarta on Monday, Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) chairman Akbar Buchari called the arrangement “very positive”.
“I think in the span of two months, [Rosan] can continue what has been laid down very well by [former] investment minister Bahlil Lahadalia,” Akbar said on Monday, noting that the new minister should “accelerate Bahlil’s policies”.
Bahlil chaired the HIPMI from 2015 to 2019, while Rosan served as the association’s treasurer from 2005 to 2008.
Following the handover ceremony on Monday, Rosan told reporters he would do just that by pursuing a third-quarter year-to-date investment realization target of Rp 1.25 quadrillion (US$80.2 billion), but the freshly sworn-in minister refrained from detailing any strategy.
“We will look at existing programs and what has been planned by Pak Bahlil, and we will continue and accelerate [those efforts]. If any improvement is needed, we will do that,” he said.
Rosan was the chairman of Prabowo Subianto’s campaign team heading into February’s presidential election, which Prabowo won by a wide margin.
