tate-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) is eyeing collaboration with its Malaysian counterpart to sell railway tickets through each country's respective online platforms.

The primary focus is to be on trains often used by tourists, particularly the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail (HSR), which operates under the Whoosh brand.

KAI commercial director Hadis Surya Palapa said on Monday that the initiative would allow customers in both countries to purchase tickets seamlessly via Access by KAI in Indonesia and the app of Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) in Malaysia.

"We are exploring how we can sell tickets together, enabling users to buy tickets through apps. This is what we hope to achieve from this conference. Talks have already begun," said Hadis, as quoted by Bisnis.

The potential partnership should extend beyond technological collaboration, Hadis added, expressing interest in direct routes connecting neighboring countries.

“While a direct railway line to Kuala Lumpur might be ambitious,” he pointed out, “there’s close proximity of Kalimantan to Brunei and Malaysia. At least there’s potential for future collaboration in [the Borneo region] in the future.”
