ertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) and Chevron New Energies Holdings Indonesia Ltd. are ready to break ground on an exploration project at the Way Ratai geothermal working area in Lampung.

The US$28.85 million project is to be managed by the companies’ joint venture, PT Cahaya Anagata Energy (CAE), which has secured a geothermal permit from the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry for commencing surveys to uncover the site’s geothermal potential.

Julfi Hadi, president director of state-owned Pertamina’s subsidiary PGE, said the Way Ratai project would strengthen the company’s geothermal development portfolio.

“We are committed to continue working with strategic partners in ensuring the development of sustainable, geothermal energy resources and benefits to the community,” Julfi said in a statement issued on Thursday, as quoted by Bisnis.com.

The Way Ratai exploration project includes a geological, geophysical and geochemical (3G) survey to facilitate development of a geothermal power plant.
