A leadership crisis at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) continues as a meeting mediated by Golkar Party chairman Bahlil Lahadalia on Friday evening failed to bring about agreement on who is the legitimate chairman of the lobby group.

Arsjad Rasjid, who was elected Kadin chairman with a five-year mandate in 2021, and Anindya Bakrie, who was appointed Kadin chairman in a disputed extraordinary national congress earlier this month, made opposing statements on Saturday in which each claimed the chairmanship role for themselves.

A press statement issued by Kadin on Saturday names Arsjad as the organization’s chair and Anindya as head of the advisory board.

“The resolution reached in this meeting underlines the commitment to hold firm to the organization’s rules. […] This agreement is the result of deliberations in a spirit of togetherness to resolve internal dynamics and strive for national economic progress,” reads the statement.

Hours after the statement was published, Anindya, told reporters the opposite by maintaining that, according to the extraordinary congress, he was the chairman for the 2024-2029 period and “would be happy if Pak Arsjad stands by my side, of course, on the advisory board”.
