T

he cabinet presented by newly installed President Prabowo Subianto substantially expands the portfolio of Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto.

“The President has assigned sectors to be managed under the economic [coordinating minister], including investment, energy and tourism,” Airlangga said on Monday, as quoted by Detik.

Previously, these sectors were overseen by Luhut Pandjaitan in his role as coordinating investment and maritime affairs minister under former President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

However, that position has been eliminated in the new cabinet, and Luhut has joined the new administration as head of the newly created National Economic Council.

Airlangga added that under his new areas of responsibility, he had been tasked with prioritizing investment in industries that could strengthen foreign exchange revenue and create more jobs.

“Job creation was the main priority in his [President Prabowo’s] speech [at the inauguration] yesterday, along with increasing the value of investment,” he said.
