P

resident Prabowo Subianto has asked his aides to accelerate the country’s food self- sufficiency target to 2027, a year earlier than the initial aim of 2028, a senior minister said on Thursday.

Coordinating Food Minister Zulkifli Hasan noted that the related ministries would only have two years to achieve the goal, stressing the need for hard work to accelerate progress.

“We have been instructed by the President that the food self-sufficiency goal has now been moved forward from 2028 to 2027,” Zulkifli told reporters.

Zulkifli did not detail which food commodities the government will pursue in its food self- sufficiency goal. However, he said the country would no longer import rice starting next year.

“Hopefully, we will not import rice next year, if any, it will be just a little. We are working hard on that,” he said.
