Safe trips across millions of kilometers exemplify ‘#AmanBersamaGojek’ initiative

G

oTo Group’s on-demand service Gojek reaffirms its #AmanBersamaGojek (#SafeWithGojek) commitment by strengthening initiatives and collaborating with more parties.

First implemented in 2015, Gojek's security measures began when they launched services through their application. Gojek raised the safety standards for motorcycle taxi services by conducting safe riding training for drivers and creating service standards that support safety, such as the provision of uniforms and helmets. Subsequently, in 2019, these safety standards were reinforced with the launch of the three pillars of #SafeWithGojek  consists of three pillars, namely Education, Technology and Protection, which complement each other in protecting millions of kilometers of safe travel in the Gojek ecosystem.

As a result of this commitment, Gojek’s internal data show that from January to November 2024, accidents and incidents causing injuries only accounted for around 1 percent of total reports.

Gojek head of region Gede Manggala said the company puts the safety of customers and driver partners as a top priority.

“We consistently remain committed to providing a sense of security and strengthening #AmanBersamaGojek steps to ensure that security risks are kept at a minimum. However, we will not stop here, as through strategic collaboration with competent stakeholders in their fields, security initiatives will continue to be strengthened to address various existing risks,” he said, adding that the three pillars of security can optimally protect the Gojek ecosystem."

In addition to reducing accidents, #AmanBersamaGojek also encourages the creation of a safe space free of sexual violence. For almost six years since 2019, a series of anti-sexual violence training sessions have been carried out face-to-face in dozens of operational cities or online, which involve both Gojek driver partners and members of the Gojek Emergency Unit Team, who are on duty 24/7 to respond to emergencies.

The training includes identification, assistance steps, as well as the reporting process and knowledge related to the 2022 Eradication of Sexual Violence Law as the legal umbrella that regulates sanctions and handling of cases of sexual violence.

Eni Widiyanti, Assistant Deputy for Protection of Women's Rights in Households and Vulnerable Women at the Women Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry, expressed her support for Gojek’s initiative.

”Collaboration between the private sector and the government is important to ensure that the issue of sexual violence can receive widespread attention. We appreciate the steps that Gojek has taken, not only in its seriousness in taking preventive steps through education and technology, but also in protecting its partners and customers from various security risks, including sexual violence. Along with the ratification of the Eradication of Sexual Violence Law, we hope this collaborative effort can be a step forward for us to realize an Indonesia free from sexual violence,” she said.

The Transportation Ministry’s Head of the Urban Transportation Sub-directorate Muhammad Fahmi also expressed his appreciation for Gojek in contributing to safe travel.

“The low incident rate in Gojek trips shows the importance of education, technology and strong collaboration in ensuring safe travel. Gojek's contribution as an online transportation service operator is exemplary, including in supporting safe public spaces free from gender-based violence so that all parties can feel safe traveling anywhere.”

At the same time, Gojek is also strengthening its collaboration with cross-stakeholders in developing modules and providing anti-sexual violence training.

Gojek’s collaborative efforts are exemplified with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Carilayanan.com, a directory of support institutions for victims of gender-based violence managed by Jakarta Feminist.

The MoU aims to strengthen the mechanism for preventing and handling acts of sexual violence within the Gojek ecosystem, as well as to provide integrated service information to the wider community regarding assistance services for victims of sexual violence.

Ongoing collaboration has been carried out with dozens of non-profit organizations, including Safe Roads Without Harassment (DEMAND) - part of Jakarta Feminist and the Coalition for Safe Public Space (KRPA), Samahita Bandung Community, the Bali chapter of Indonesia Planned Parenthood (PKBI), the Legal Aid Foundation of the Indonesian Women’s Association for Justice (LBH APIK), as well as the Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry and Transportation Ministry.

DEMAND program director Anindya Restuviani said it was the sixth year the organization had collaborated with Gojek to invite driver partners to play an active role in preventing acts of sexual violence in their environment.

“Gojek's consistency in continuing to strive to maintain the security of its ecosystem from acts of sexual violence is worthy of appreciation. The shared vision between DEMAND and Gojek regarding the importance of feeling safe from sexual violence in public spaces, underlies our continued in-depth collaboration. We also appreciate Gojek's steps in collaborating with Carilayanan.com, one of the platforms we initiated to provide reference information regarding assistance for victims of sexual violence.”

Gojek’s efforts are in line with the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (16 HAKBG), which is commemorated every Nov. 25 to Dec. 10 throughout the world.
