anadian Minister of International Development Ahmed Hussen has conveyed his country’s interest in supporting nuclear energy development in Indonesia.
The minister said Canada and Indonesia were working together on a number of initiatives, one of which was on nuclear energy development to meet climate targets.
“I was here to highlight the fact that Canada is ready to share its expertise and its experience with nuclear energy,” Minister Ahmed Hussen said in a press conference during his visit to Indonesia on Friday.
He added that Indonesia had previously expressed interest in nuclear energy to lower the country’s emissions and meet demand for more energy, while Canada had a history of providing technical and other support for the development.

Ahmed further cited Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau saying during his last ASEAN Summit that Canada was ready to support and provide the expertise needed for developing nuclear power.
“He was also talking about the broader regulatory context and framework that you need to set up if you're going down the route of establishing a nuclear energy industry in your country. Canada is eager and happy to collaborate with ASEAN in general, and Indonesia in particular,” Ahmed said.
