Maroef’s appointment as president director of MIND ID has added to the broader trend of President Prabowo Subianto appointing his allies and aides to key strategic positions.
he government has appointed brother of Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin to helm state-owned mining holding firm MIND ID, following an annual general shareholders meeting in Jakarta on Monday.
Maroef Sjamsoeddin will be the holding’s new president director, replacing his predecessor Hendi Prio Santoso, who has held the position since 2021.
Maroef will lead the firm that would also comprise mining giants from coal to critical minerals amid the nation’s push to develop its downstream industry and energy transition pursuit.
MIND ID’s business units include Antam, Bukit Asam, Inalum and Timah. It also holds majority stake in PT Freeport Indonesia and PT Vale Indonesia.
