ndonesia is pinning its hopes on Germany and Japan, the new coleaders of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) in the country, to revive the flailing US$20 billion initiative and accelerate the country’s shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy.
Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartanto reaffirmed the two countries’ commitment to the JETP after he met representatives from international partners from the initiative on Monday, while reassuring that the withdrawal of the United States would not impact the initiative.
The government also stepped up its efforts by forming an energy transition and economy task force under the Office of the Coordinating Economy Minister, comprised of four working groups that focus on green energy, green industry, green partnerships and investments and social, economic and human resource development.

Fabby Tumiwa, executive director of the Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR), told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday that the new coleaders brought a positive outlook for the JETP, stressing how they had implemented energy transition commitments in their own countries.
He noted that Germany had made progress by enforcing its energy transition regulatory framework, while Japan had been focusing on industrial decarbonization as its primary source of greenhouse gas emissions.
