he Industry Ministry has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing green industrial practices in Indonesia through the first Annual Indonesia Green Industry Summit (AIGIS) 2024. The event recognized companies that have successfully implemented green industry principles while strengthening collaboration to achieve decarbonization goals in the industrial sector.
In his opening remarks, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized that the move toward green industry was part of Indonesia's broader strategy to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060, with the industrial sector specifically targeting carbon neutrality by 2050. “Indonesia has made significant progress, ranking 49th globally in 2023 in the transition toward sustainable energy and industries. This achievement is largely due to the contributions of companies committed to green industry standards,” said Agus.
Agus further highlighted the importance of innovation and investment in renewable energy to support decarbonization efforts. “Companies that have earned green industry certification have demonstrated efficiency in resource use, emission mitigation and improved waste management. This award is a recognition of their hard work, and we hope to see more industries join this journey,” he added.
During the summit, Agus called on all stakeholders, including both the government and the private sector, to collectively build a supportive ecosystem. This includes financing, industrial area governance and the application of environmentally friendly technologies. “Sustainable industrial governance requires close collaboration from all parties. It’s not just about profit, but also about preserving the environment for future generations,” he stressed.
One of the companies recognized at AIGIS 2024 was PT Sarihusada Generasi Mahardhika (SGM). The SGM Prambanan Factory ranked among the top-three companies in the Best Performance in Green Industry category. The award was received by Joko Yulianto, factory director of specialized nutrition east.
Joko expressed his gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed SGM’s commitment to green industry practices. “We adhere to the Danone Impact Journey, which focuses on three pillars: environmental preservation, community growth and health. This award motivates us to continue innovating at every stage of production,” he said.
SGM Prambanan has implemented various initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint, including the use of a biomass boiler powered by rice husks, which has successfully reduced carbon emissions by 32 percent. “We are committed to broader collaboration to realize a greener and more sustainable Indonesia,” Joko added.
AIGIS 2024 serves as a pivotal moment for the Industry Ministry to continue driving Indonesia’s industrial transformation toward a more environmentally friendly future, where sustainability is no longer an option, but a necessity for a better tomorrow.
