he National Police's Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) is set to stop a probe into Nurhayati, a treasurer of Citamu village in Mundu district, Cirebon regency, West Java, who became a graft suspect after reporting the village’s chief Supriyadi for alleged corruption.
Bareskrim head Comr. Gen. Agus Andrianto said the termination of the investigation was concluded after the police could not find enough evidence for the case to proceed to trial.
"The result is not enough evidence so phase 2 will not be carried out,” Agus told the press as quoted by kompas.com.
Nurhayati initially was a witness who reported Supriyadi for alleged corruption of the village budget in 2018-2020 amounting to at least Rp 818 million (US$57,066), but instead was named a suspect by the Cirebon Police late last year.
West Java police said despite Nurhayati claiming to be the one alerting the authorities of the graft case, she was not the one that filed the formal report to the police. Police said the actual reporter of this case was the Citemu Village Consultative Body (BPD).
In a short clip that circulated on social media, Nurhayati said that she was disappointed to be named as a suspect in the case as she was the one who first notified the authorities of the graft conducted by Supriyadi the former village head.
She denied having taken the money involved in the graft case, saying that her family was having a hard time due to the police naming her a suspect.
