ine Indonesian workers embraced their weeping families as they arrived home in Binjai, North Sumatra, on Tuesday, after being trapped in Chernihiv, a city in northern Ukraine, while war rages on following Russia’s invasion.
“Thank God, you’re safe, son,” Ritami said with tears running down her face as she held Muhammad Raga Payuga between her arms.
Ritami said she had been sleepless waiting for her son to arrive safely back home.
“I prayed night and day for his safety,” she said during their reunion at the Binjai mayor’s residence on Tuesday evening.
Equally emotional and grateful, Ayi Rodiah said she could breathe easily now that her husband Iskandar and her son Aris Wahyudi had arrived home.
“We have prayed and hoped for this,” she said.
Iskandar and Aris were working at a plastic factory when the Russian invasion began on Feb. 24. They were unable to leave the factory compound for weeks.
