Indonesia Decides

To:p>The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and its electoral allies have named Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) chairman Arsjad Rasjid and retired military general Andika Perkasa as respectively the manager and deputy of presumptive nominee Ganjar Pranowo’s presidential campaign.

The announce followed a closed-door meeting on Monday at PDI-P headquarters in Central Jakarta between the PDI-P and its three allies, the United Development Party (PPP) and nonlegislative parties the Perindo Party and Hanura.

“The decision has been made. The campaign team will be led by Arsjad,” Perindo chair Hary Tanoesoedibjo told reporters after Monday’s meeting, as quoted by Kompas.com. “The team will start working today.”

He added that Arsjad was selected for his ability to approach youths, his no-nonsense leadership style in getting work done and his vast network.

Former Indonesian Military (TNI) commander Andika, who had been widely tipped to become Ganjar’s campaign manager, would instead be one of several deputy managers, Hary said, though he did not name any other members of the team.

Arsjad, who is also president director of publicly listed coal miner Indika Energy, succeeded Rosan Roeslani as Kadin chief in a leadership contest in 2021 that was marred by allegations of state interference.
