“Real commitments must be bolstered, specifically those from developed nations, for climate financing to reach the net-zero emissions target,” Jokowi said in a press briefing at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Thursday.
eveloped nations must fulfill their commitment to provide climate funding for developing countries and support an inclusive transition to clean energy, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said on Thursday before he departed for the United Nations climate change conference (COP28) in oil-rich Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.
A number of conference participants are hoping for an early deal to secure funds for climate crisis-induced damage resulting from record-breaking summer heat waves and increased wildfires and flooding in the past year.
At the 28th UN climate conference, Jokowi is expected to assert the importance of cooperative global climate funding in ensuring sustainable development and welfare in developing nations.
“Real commitments must be bolstered, specifically those from developed nations, for climate financing to reach the net-zero emissions target,” Jokowi said in a press briefing at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Thursday.
The President later left for Dubai with a limited entourage that included State Secretary Pratikno.
Some 140 leaders and 70,000 delegates from across the world are set to assemble for the annual UN climate summit, where nations are seeking to work together to cut planet-heating emissions to contain the global temperature rise to within 1.5 degrees Celsius.
This year, the participants will take an inventory of the world’s progress in curbing the climate crisis, an assessment widely expected to show meager results.
