Presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo said he and his running mate, Mahfud MD, will be fully committed to eradicating corruption in Indonesia if elected.
Presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo said on Monday that he and his running mate, Mahfud MD, will be fully committed to eradicating corruption if elected.
During his presidential campaign in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, Ganjar said one of his supporters asked him to eradicate corruption, collusion and nepotism.
“Eradicating corruption has become my vision and mission with Mahfud. We must eradicate all forms of corruption,” said Ganjar, as quoted by www.tempo.co.
Ganjar touted his Mboten Korupsi, Mboten Ngapusi (No corruption, no lying) tagline, a Javanese slogan he used during his stint as the Central Java governor to eradicate corruption practices in the province.
He also recounted an incident when a member of his staff attempted to bribe him during his gubernatorial role to illustrate challenges in reducing corruption practices.
“Brother, take this [the bribe] back to your home and give it back to your wife and children. If not, give it to me and let me send it to the Corruption Eradication Commission [KPK] as proof of gratuity,” Ganjar said when reminiscing about the incident.
Ganjar said Indonesia had not made significant progress in eradicating corruption as part of its law enforcement policies.
