Presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo has said he plans, if elected, to form a zaken cabinet, one that consists of ministers who are experts in their fields.
The term comes from the Dutch zakenkabinet (literally “business cabinet”), used to describe a cabinet of civil servants or businesspeople rather than politicians.
In the Indonesian context, the term refers to a cabinet filled by technical experts without regard to their political affiliations.
Ganjar said on Monday that he had been searching for suitable people to fill the posts and that he would begin by assessing the technical expertise of each candidate.
“Do we have the people? We do. There are so many,” he said, as quoted by republika.co.id.
He said he would use key performance indicators (KPI) to assess his ministers once they were appointed and would share this data with the public as well.
“This technocratic cabinet must be encouraged from now on,” Ganjar said, as quoted by detik.com.
