President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has denied rumors that several ministers, including Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, will resign from his administration.

"Where did this news come from? From morning until evening, we hold plenary, internal and limited meetings," said Jokowi after attending a Nahdlatul Ulama event in Jakarta on Saturday, as quoted by Kompas.

According to Jokowi, there have been no issues that have arisen from the ministers themselves. Jokowi’s office also recently held internal and plenary meetings to discuss the government digitization system.

Jokowi believed that the resignation rumors emerged due to the upcoming election in February.

"We have entered the political month of the year. All of these things will be associated with political matters. However, we [and the ministers] work regularly, doing our daily routines," said Jokowi.

Previously, senior economist and ex-National Mandate Party (PAN) politician Faisal Basri claimed that Sri Mulyani was the most morally prepared to resign from Jokowi’s cabinet. Apart from Sri Mulyani, Faisal also mentioned that Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono was prepared to resign.

According to Faisal, the resignation was due to disappointment in the policies of Jokowi's administration, which is regarded as not being neutral in the upcoming election.

"I didn't [urge them to resign]. I want to make a disclaimer that I am not directly related to the people I mentioned. So I also keep my distance," said Faisal.

Sri Mulyani and her ministry have also denied the rumors of the resignation.
