The 2024 presidential candidates appear to be concentrating their forces in key battleground provinces on Java as they enter the final three days of the official campaign period.

T

he presidential candidates have begun their final push for votes in several battleground provinces on the most populous island Java ahead of the general election, which falls next week on Valentine's Day.

The 75-day official campaign period ends on Saturday, and the three candidates vying to succeed President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo are making their final appeal to thousands of Indonesians in major rallies from Thursday to Saturday.

A so-called quiet period of three days follows before more than 205 million registered voters head to the polling stations on Feb. 14

Candidate Anies Baswedan, who is running with Muhaimin Iskandar as ballot No. 1, greeted his supporters on Thursday at rallies in Garut and Cianjur, West Java.

The final leg of his Java tour is set for Friday in Pasuruan, East Java, after which he is to conclude his campaign on Saturday at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), regarded by analysts as the crowning achievement of his past governorship in the capital.

Front-runner Prabowo Subianto and his running mate Gibran Rakabuming Raka attended a rally on Thursday in Bandung, West Java.
