Comedian Alfiansyah Bustami Komeng has taken the lead in the West Java Regional Representatives Council (DPD) election, according to the General Elections Commission's (KPU) preliminary real count.
The real count showed that Komeng secured 8.52 percent, or 315,031 votes, as of Thursday afternoon at 5:15 p.m., ahead of 53 other DPD candidates in the province, according to pemilu2024.kpu.go.id.
This data covered 35.47 percent of the overall vote, with reports hailing from 49,825 out of 140,457 polling stations (TPS) in West Java.
The 53-year-old comedian caught the attention of West Java voters for his unique photo on the ballots compared with other candidates.
He had a humorous expression rather than the usual formal smile or serious expression other candidates showed.
Acknowledging the viral spread of his ballot photo on social media, Komeng expressed gratitude to all those who voted for him.

"Thank you to everyone who voted for me today. It's not bad that now I have a barolong [body with holes]. Let's make the government system more humorous," Komeng wrote on an X post on Wednesday, as quoted by cnnindonesia.com news portal.
