he Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) has criticized a new petition seeking to challenge the party structure at an administrative court as another attempt to undermine the party during the election year.
Five individuals, reportedly claiming to be from the PDI-P, filed the petition with the Jakarta State Administrative Court (PTUN) on Monday, challenging a ministerial decree confirming the new lineup of executives that the PDI-P introduced in July ahead of the candidate registration for the regional head elections.
The court registry website shows the petitioners are Djupri, Jairi, Manto, Suwari and Sujoko, but does not detail the reason behind their petition nor their legal standing.
PDI-P politician Deddy Sitorus said on Tuesday that the petition was an outrageous attempt to undermine the party. He suspects that certain political powers were behind the petition.
“There is no damage [incurred by the decree] to the petitioners. This petition looks more like an attempt to attack the PDI-P,” Deddy said in a statement.
In the decision in July, the party extended the terms of the incumbent members of the central executive board to 2025, and brought in new members who have openly criticized outgoing President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, who is nominally a PDI-P member.
