Jakarta gubernatorial nominee Ridwan Kamil has been rejected by some potential voters throughout his unofficial campaign in the city, but he and his electoral coalition have downplayed the incidents, saying it was all “part of democracy”.
Ridwan, a Golkar politician and former West Java governor, is contesting the city’s gubernatorial election alongside Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician Suswono.
The pair, which has the backing of all but one party in the Jakarta legislative council, will be up against Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung and actor Rano Karno, who run on the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) ticket, as well as the independent pair Dharma Pongrekun and Kun Wardana.
