utgoing President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has made a mark on the incoming cabinet lineup of his successor Prabowo Subianto, as a number of his current ministers made it onto the president-elect’s potential cabinet roster.
Prabowo has started to summon a long list of likely to-be ministers in his upcoming administration since Monday, inviting scores of politicians, academics and public figures to his private residence in Kertanegara, Jakarta, on Monday evening.
Many of the politicians were figures allied with Jokowi, including at least 15 incumbent ministers from the President’s outgoing administration such as Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Home Minister Tito Karnavian and State Secretary Pratikno — all of whom are considered close aides of Jokowi.
Other incumbent ministers present on Monday were Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, who are believed to have secured the same post in Prabowo’s administration once he is inaugurated as the next president on Oct. 20.
Analysts said Prabowo, who chairs Gerindra Party, might have been accommodating Jokowi’s ambition to have his people in the incoming cabinet.
“Seeing the recurring ministers, it cannot be denied that Jokowi’s influence is prominent in this potential cabinet lineup,” political analyst Adi Prayitno told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.
Prabowo ran on a platform of continuity with vice president-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Jokowi’s eldest son, as his running mate. They won against two rivals, one of whom was the candidate of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), the largest party in the legislature which has yet to decide its stance toward the incoming administration.
