he People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) will host two rehearsals this week for the inauguration of Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto as Indonesia’s eighth president, slated to be held on Oct. 20.
Speaking to reporters in Jakarta, MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani said the first round of the rehearsal would take place on Friday with the final round to occur on Saturday, a day before the main event.
“This week we will get down to the decorations and the [two rounds] of rehearsal,” said Muzani, as quoted by Antara. “We’re about 90 percent done with everything.”
Former Army general Prabowo and ex-Surakarta, Central Java, mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who is also the eldest son of outgoing President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo will finally take on the country’s highest posts following their one-round victory at the February election. The inauguration ceremony is expected to be attended by hundreds of VIPs, including foreign leaders.
The ceremony will be held at the House of Representatives complex in Jakarta, where the new president will announce his cabinet members.

Earlier this week, Prabowo summoned over 50 people including politicians, incumbent ministers and lawmakers, as well as public figures, reportedly slated to take up the roles of deputy ministers and heads of government institutions, to his residence in Kertanegara, South Jakarta.
With all eyes now fixed on this weekend’s stately event, groundwork has continued to ensure the success of the ceremony, including the logistics to welcome foreign guests.
The MPR’s Muzani explained that invitations had been sent to the leaders of “nearly all” ASEAN countries, several European countries and “other countries from around the world which are friends of Indonesia”.
Meanwhile, dozens of politicians have confirmed their attendance at Sunday’s event, including losing presidential pairs Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD.
Prabowo is scheduled to visit the State Palace in Jakarta following his inaugural ceremony.
