oko “Jokowi” Widodo wished new President Prabowo Subianto success in leading the country on Sunday as the former president returned to his hometown in Surakarta, Central Java after passing the baton to his successor.
“I wish him strength in leading this big country,” Jokowi told the media shortly before boarding a Boeing passenger jet operated by the Air Force that took him to Surakarta.
“I entrusted all the hopes and dreams of the nation’s 280 million people to the new President,” Jokowi added.
Prabowo sent Jokowi off at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base after a handover ceremony at the Presidential Palace, accompanying the former president on the way to the airport in the presidential motorcade.
At the airport, Jokowi was seen shaking hands with his former cabinet members.
“I wish him all the best,” Prabowo said when asked by reporters about his hope for Jokowi, shortly before Jokowi and his wife Iriana boarded the plane.
