More than 1,500 personnel were deployed to take down a segment of a more than 30-kilometer-long bamboo structure that was allegedly built by private contractors to lay the groundwork for a massive reclamation project.
ndonesian Navy Chief of Staff Adm. Muhammad Ali and the chair of House of Representatives Commission IV overseeing maritime affairs, Siti Hedijati "Titiek" Soeharto, led a flotilla of Navy and Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry personnel on Wednesday to dismantle a section of an unlicensed sea fence off the coast of Tangerang, Banten.
More than 1,500 personnel were deployed to take down the segment of the more than 30-kilometer-long bamboo structure that was allegedly built by private contractors to lay the groundwork for a massive reclamation project.
Also joining the Titiek, the former wife of President Prabowo Subianto, and Adm. Muhammad Ali was Agrarian and Spatial Planning Minister Nusron Wahid.
A senior Navy official said the order was to take down the whole bamboo structure and that the process would be carried out in stages.
"Today, we're going to focus on Tanjung Pasir and the next spot will be Kronjo," chief of Indonesian Navy Base III Brig. Gen. Harry Indarto said, as quoted by Antara.

Earlier on Tuesday, Titiek urged law enforcement agencies to launch an investigation into who ordered the construction of the mysterious sea fence.
