ivil servant lecturers grouped in a nationwide alliance plan to go on strike after Ramadan if the government continues to ignore their demands that they be paid their overdue allowances dating back to 2020.

"The voices of our colleagues in the regions have reached a critical level. There have been calls for a national strike,” Anggun Gunawan, coordinator of the All-Indonesia Alliance of Civil Servant Lecturers of the Education, Science and Technology Ministry (Adaksi), said on Monday during a demonstration near the Arjuna Wijaya Statue in Central Jakarta, as quoted by Kompas.com.

“We are giving the government a chance. If we are ignored again, we will be forced to take action,” he added.

Anggun emphasized that the group did not want to hold a nationwide strike, and that taking such an action was a last resort if their demands continued to be unmet.

"We at Adaksi do not want this to happen. However, if the state and government disregard our demands, we will reluctantly take that path," he said.

The group is demanding the retroactive payment of performance allowances between 2020 and 2024 to civil servant lecturers nationwide.
