tate-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has launched an investigation into the cause of a fire that engulfed several train cars on the stabling track at Tugu Station in Yogyakarta on Wednesday morning.
At least three cars were affected by the blaze, with two completely burned, and one sustaining damage at one end.
"There were no casualties in the incident," said Yogyakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Aditya Surya Dharma, as reported by tempo.co.
Aditya said the burned train cars were reserve units awaiting deployment and had not yet been assigned to any train.
The fire occurred in the stabling area, where trains are parked when not in operation, located on the northern side of Tugu Station near the eastern entrance.
According to Feni Novida Saragih, spokesperson for the Yogyakarta branch of PT KAI, the fire broke out at around 6:45 a.m., and station officials immediately called firefighters to the scene.
The Yogyakarta Firefighting Agency responded with five fire trucks and 30 personnel, successfully extinguishing the flames in less than an hour.
