13-year-old junior high school student in South Tangerang, Banten, has died following an alleged bullying attack by a classmate, marking yet another fatal case of school violence in Indonesia.
The student, identified by his initials MH, died on Sunday at Fatmawati General Hospital in South Jakarta after several days of intensive treatment.
According to his mother, Noviyanti, MH began experiencing blurry vision and lethargy on Oct. 21.
“I noticed a bruise on the top of his head. When I asked what had happened, he lied at first but eventually admitted that a classmate had struck him with an iron chair the day before,” she said, as reported by Kompas.id.
She added that MH told her he had been bullied repeatedly since starting junior high school in July, including being hit, kicked and jabbed with a plastic straw.

Following the bullying report, MH’s parents took him to a private hospital for treatment, but his condition continued to decline. He was eventually transferred to Fatmawati Hospital on Nov. 9, where doctors discovered that he had been suffering from a brain tumor.
