he Indonesian Navy and Air Force have deployed assets, supplies and personnel to provide support to natural disaster victims from the floods and landslides that have devastated Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra.
The swift deployment has been in response to increasing needs to evacuate and distribute aid and medical treatment in affected regions, the Navy said in a press release on Friday.
As part of these humanitarian operations, the Navy has deployed the KRI dr. Soeharso-990 hospital ship and KRI Semarang-594 landing platform dock to support logistics shipment, personnel mobilization and victim evacuation.

The Navy’s latest and largest warship, the KRI Brawijaya-320 frigate, is also being deployed for disaster response efforts.
The warships carry four Navy Aviation Center (Puspenerbal) helicopters, and Frogman Command operatives are ready to help with the evacuations, cleaning the affected areas and providing direct assistance to victims. Meanwhile, the Marines Health Battalion will provide medical services, establish field medical posts and emergency treatment for wounded victims.
All these naval units will be dispatched as soon as possible this week to help victims in North Sumatra and West Sumatra.
