he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Kuantan Singingi Regent Suhardiman Amby in Riau as a suspect in a bribery case, making him the eighth regional head arrested by the agency on graft charges this year.
KPK acting investigations director Ahmad Taufik Husein said Suhardiman allegedly received luxury vehicles in exchange for approving the appointment of a senior official in the regency administration.
“In April last year, Suhardiman allegedly requested a Toyota Land Cruiser 300 SUV worth around Rp 2 billion (US$110,950) from two candidates for the regional secretary post. The candidates were Fahdiansyah, then acting regional secretary and Zulkarnaen, then head of the Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency,” Taufik said on Wednesday as quoted by Kompas.com.
He added that only Zulkarnaen agreed to the request and was subsequently appointed Kuantan Singingi regional secretary for the 2025–2029 term.
“The process led to his appointment as regional secretary for the 2025–2029 period,” he added.
Taufik also said that in 2021, Zulkarnaen allegedly gave Suhardiman a Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Dakar worth around Rp 700 million while Suhardiman was serving as acting regent of Kuantan Singingi, in exchange for his appointment as head of the Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency.
KPK suspects the vehicle purchases exceeded Zulkarnaen’s financial capacity, prompting him to seek assistance from a private party identified as Ardiles, president director of a construction consultancy firm, PT Mitra Ideal Consultant.
