n inquiry motion seeking the impeachment of Gowa regent Sitti Husniah Talenrang in South Sulawesi is gaining momentum after she was accused of corruption, extramarital affairs and other alleged misconduct.
Asrul Makkaraus, deputy chair of the Gowa Legislative Council's (DPRD) special committee overseeing the inquiry, said the investigation had reached its final stage after the panel questioned dozens of witnesses. The committee is expected to summon Husniah this week to respond to the allegations.
"The hearing is scheduled for Thursday. The Gowa regent will be given up to three opportunities to comply with the summons and provide clarification. If she fails to appear after the third summons, the DPRD will move the inquiry to a plenary session," Asrul said on Sunday, as quoted by Kompas.com.
Husniah said she respects the inquiry process as long as the special committee prioritizes the public interest.
"I appreciate the work of my colleagues in the DPRD and hope they approach this matter with wisdom and put the public interest first," she said on Saturday.
Husniah added that day-to-day government operations in Gowa have continued uninterrupted despite the ongoing inquiry, even as several agency heads and other officials were called to testify before the special committee.
"I have urged all officials to remain focused on their duties to ensure the regional government's performance targets are achieved," she said.
