n an effort to expand its services in growing markets, Spotify has released a test version of its app called Spotify Lite.
Spotify Lite, which is currently only available on Android in Brazil, is only 15 megabytes, while the original Spotify takes up 100 MB of space.
According to a report by Android Police, because of its small size, Spotify Lite is unable to perform many key features. While Spotify and its lite alternative appear similar, the latter does not allow for offline playback, nor does it have Spotify Connect, which allows for audio to be wirelessly streamed from a phone to another device, like speakers or a TV.

Specific songs cannot be selected even for premium subscribers, so all music has to be played via shuffle.
Underneath the Google Play listing for the app, reviews are mixed, with some frustrated over its lack of features and others happy with its quick performance.
A Spotify spokesperson told The Verge that the company “routinely conducts a number of tests in an effort to improve our user experience. Some of those tests end up paving the path for our broader user experience and others serve only as an important learning [experience]. We aren’t going to comment on specific tests at this time.” (sul/kes)
