n order to provide a guide for diners to choose the best dining venues in Bali and to show all the great work that chefs on the island are doing, FoodieS magazine and Aqua Reflections has presented Bali’s Best Eats Awards and Guide 2018.

The awarding event in Bali follows the resounding success of Jakarta’s Best Eats Awards and Guide, which recognized outstanding dining establishments in the capital.

Jakarta’s Best Eats Awards gave accolades to the top 40 restaurants in town and awards in the categories of Restaurant of the Year, Chef of the Year and Bar of the Year, at a gala event in February.

Now that FoodieS and Aqua Reflections have expanded their Best Eats concept to Bali, locals and visitors will be able to learn about the creative talents behind the developing landscape of Bali’s culinary scene.

Reputable industry experts from all walks of life have been assembled to ensure credible, honest and fair judgment. The panel of judges consists of celebrity chef Yuda Bustara, Ubud Food Festival founder Janet de Neefe, chef and hotelier Sandra Djohan, sommelier and hotelier Guillaume Epinette, gourmand and member of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Baillage Bali Pierre Lang, celebrity chef Rinrin Marinka, president director of PT Tirta Investama (Danone AQUA) Corine Tap, Bali Food Safari founder Simon Ward and Jed Doble, publisher of FoodieS magazine.

Restaurants will compete in one of three categories: Fine Dining, Upscale Dining and Casual Dining. They will be judged on criteria such as cuisine, quality of service, drinks menu or wine list and interior design or character.

Following Jakarta, Bali may be considered the next thriving food hub of Indonesia. One of the island's restaurants, Locavore, has been placed at number 21 in the San Pellegrino and Acqua Panna’s Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2018.

This is Locavore’s third year in the ranking, following its debut at number 49 in 2016 and then 22 in 2017. Previously, Mozaic restaurant in Ubud ranked 50 in 2013, followed by Sarong at number 47 in 2014.

More than just to give accolades, Bali’s Best Eats Awards has a bigger purpose.

Flora Tobing, brand manager of Aqua Reflections, said in a press release that the awarding event was aimed at encouraging the growth of local culinary talent.

“We are taking a tangible step to show our commitment as Aqua Reflections in contributing to raising standards in quality for Indonesia’s culinary industry through Bali’s Best Eats. In addition, we hope that Bali’s Best Eats will encourage more local culinary talents to keep progressing and innovating to achieve excellence in the Bali culinary industry,” Flora said.
