In "Small Talk," the vocalist reflects on the conflicting feelings that come with a breakup.

"We've gone from strangers to lovers to strangers/Acting like we never met/Faking like we'd just forget

We were lovers/And now there's nothing left but small talk," she laments over a pop beat.

The song came with a retro-inspired lyric video that follows a pair of co-workers who used to date, as they try to keep things civil in the office.

"Small Talk" marks the second single Perry has unveiled this year, following "Never Really Over."

It is still unclear whether the two songs will appear on her forthcoming sixth studio album, which would follow her 2017 "Witness."

Perry recently made headlines after losing a copyright infringement lawsuit over her 2013 hit "Dark Horse." A jury decided that the singer and her collaborators had to pay $2.8 million in damages to Christian rapper Flame.

Following the verdict, Perry called the ruling a "travesty of justice," claiming that "Dark Horse" and Flame's 2008 "Joyful Noise" had "no access of substantial similarity."
