AKARTA: Police declared Neni Treeana, a Tangerang woman who killed her 8-month-old baby, is mentally ill on Wednesday.

"This morning, a letter came from the hospital stating that Neni was mentally ill and needed treatment," said Curug Police chief Adj. Comr. Sutarlan, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

Neni is currently undergoing treatment at Serpong Psychiatric Hospital.

Last November, Neni, 27, poisoned her son by putting insecticide in his milk bottle.

She then attempted suicide by slitting her wrists and drinking the remaining poison.

Sutarlan said Neni had physically recovered, but police had not been able to question her due to her mental condition.

Police have named her as the sole suspect in the case. After the initial investigation, police suspect Neni suffered from postnatal depression.
