ONOSOBO: A fire razed part of a protected forest on the slopes of Mt. Sumbing, in Bowongso village, Garung district, Wonosobo regency, Central Java early Sunday morning.
Enjen, a spokesman for the state-run forest management agency, said 15 officers deployed to the scene managed to extinguish the fire in few hours, along with help from 12 residents.
"The fire was first identified on Saturday night. We then went there to stop the fire from spreading. The fire mostly destroyed bush," Enjen said on Sunday.
He said the fire was believed to have been caused by the remains of campfire left by hikers. - JP
