ENPASAR: Iwan Lamilai jumped out of the second floor of his house in panic as a 6.4-magnitude earthquake jolted Bali on Saturday.
He is currently undergoing surgery to heal his broken leg at Manuaba Hospital in Denpasar.
Eight other people, identified as Suryanto, Ketut Yantini, Adi Dwi Atmika, Tedi Murdita, IB Askara, Kristinayanti, Putu Robianta and Suparmi, were admitted to Sanglah Hospital due to injuries they suffered as they fled their houses to seek safety as the earthquake hit.
"They were injured as they scrambled to escape," said Ken Wirasandhi, head of the medical services unit at Sanglah Hospital. He added the hospital would not charge the patients.
Wirasandhi said five of the people were discharged from the hospital after medical treatment, including Suparmi, who is expecting a baby.
The quake caused minor damage to the hospital, but Wirasandhi said the hospital's operations were unaffected.
Endro Tjahyono, the spokesman for the Denpasar Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, said the quake was felt in Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar and Buleleng.
