<P><LEADPARA>Even without the tag line of being an event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Cuba, next week's screening at the the Bentara Budaya Cultural Center would be hard to miss. Held in collaboration with the Cuban Embassy in Jakarta the three-day event screens some of the finest films ever produced by the movie industry, Hollywood or otherwise, about Cuba and directed by some of the biggest names in the business. One of three films screened on July 19 is Comandante, a documentary about the Cuban leader Fidel Castro directed by rabble-rousing Hollywood director Oliver Stone. Closing the festival will be Buena Vista Social Club, a documentary about the legendary Cuban band of the same name directed by critically-acclaimed director Wim Wenders. Other films screened for the event include El Benny - about the life Cuban singer Benny More - and Guantanamera, directed by Tomas Gutierrez Alea, who is considered Cuba's best film director. The first screening is set for July 19 at 3 p.m. Admission is free. For information, visit www.bentarabudaya.com</LEADPARA>

outing

Find some breathing space far enough from the madding crowd without going all the way to Papua at this leafy compound owned by noted ceramicist F. Widayanto (for a close-up look, it was featured in the July WEEKENDER's fashion spread). Take a pottery class or two, stroll through the lush grounds with the kids or feast on traditional Indonesian cuisine at its homey restaurant. Call ahead for directions or check out the map on the artist's website.

It seems like Kuningan is ground zero for trendy bar-cum-restaurants, starting with Cork & Screw, then Loewy and now this cool and classy addition. That "e" stands for earth, signified by the impressive wood beams and tables, but it could also stand for elegant. Relaxed atmosphere, choice of seating indoors or on the comfortable sofas on the terrace, and an interesting menu spanning Asian, European and Mediterranean favorites (lots of vegetarian choices, too). Grab a table now before you have to get on the waiting list. And a 25-percent discount until July 25.
