Debt-ridden Mandala Airlines admitted Wednesday it would stop operations on Thursday but it was optimistic that it would resume services immediately.
“…We hope we will be back to operate in 45 days,” Mandala president director Diono Nurjadin said as quoted by kompas.com.
He said Mandala had a huge debt to resolve in the commercial court.
“We can’t disclose our debt now since we are still in the process of filing it with the commercial court,” he added.
On Wednesday, Mandala served local and international routes including Jakarta-Singapore, Jakarta-Hong Kong.
Kompas.com also reported that Mandala passengers returning from Singapore to Jakarta were stranded at the Singapore’s Changi Airport on Wednesday night without any certainty about their rescheduled flight after the airline announced it would cease operations on Thursday.

Your comments:

My sister-in-law is right now in Hong Kong and was supposed to fly back to Jakarta with Mandala. Before we booked I looked on the Internet to see how Mandala was performing and whether they were on the verge of bankruptcy. The news has been quite good.
I lived in Indonesia for nine years and love the country and the people. The only problem in Indonesia is that it is run by the wrong people. They fill their pockets, leaving the people to be the bottom feeders.
Mandala gave a telephone number for its handling agent in Hong Kong. It is always busy. Most probably the receiver is lying beside the phone. On their website they have a garbage letter that does not mention the poor people they have left stranded in foreign countries.
I strongly hope that the owners and managers do not get a single penny from the banks or the Indonesian people. They must get their deserved punishment.
