akarta: The Court Monitoring Coalition (KPP) says the Judicial Commission (KY) should carefully scrutinize all candidates for the Supreme Court.
The coalition also submitted the names of several candidates who it deemed unqualified for the position.
Currently, the KY is selecting candidates to sit in the Supreme Court and will submit a list of qualified candidates to the House of Representatives for approval.
“The KY doesn’t have to submit a total of 15 candidates to the House for approval. The KY should only submit the names of qualified candidates,” Refki Saputra of the KPP said on Tuesday.
“There are around 13 candidates with poor track records. Some of them are known to have condoned bribery and have political affiliations,” he said.
Refki added that some candidates appeared to have a lack of knowledge regarding the judicial system and failed to understand common legal terms such as class action or ultra petita.
The KY has completed the selection process, which was conducted from April 23 to May 3, but has yet to confirm which candidates passed the test. The commission still has time to consider the results, as it is not slated to submit names to the House until May 15.
