P

rofessor '€œFiz'€ Firmanzah, PhD, a professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Indonesia, became the new rector of Paramadina University, replacing Anies Baswedan, who currently serves as the Culture and Education Minister.

Fiz was inaugurated on Thursday during a hand over ceremony and the 17th anniversary of the university on Thursday.

Fiz said it was an honor for him to be selected as the rector of Paramadina University.

'€œI will bring the university to a higher level as a modern campus with international standards and more [in an attempt] to create what [the late] Professor Nurcholis Majid [the founder of Paramadina] dream of, an independent, open and culturally vibrant university,'€ he said in a release made available to The Jakarta Post on Friday.

Before becoming a rector, Fiz was a special staffer for economics for then President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and was the youngest professor and the dean of the Department of Economics at the University of Indonesia from 2009 to 2012.
