esults of a survey commissioned by world university index agency Webometrics acclaims the University of Gadjah Mada (UGM) as the best university in Indonesia and ranks it ninth best in South East Asia among 100 universities in the region, in terms of its website.
In the Webometrics survey's January edition, the website of the University of Indonesia (UI) ranks 13th, followed by the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) at 15th, the University of Brawijaya (Unibraw) Malang, East Java, at 16th, and the Bogor Institute of Agriculture at 27th.
At the international level, UGM ranks 518th among the 1,000 best universities in the world, followed by UI (660), ITB (704) and Unibraw (738).
'At the national level, during the last three years, UGM has always ranked first among universities in the country,' the university's head of information resources and system center, Widyawan, said on Saturday.
He said UGM's success in achieving top ranking nationally for three consecutive years was thanks to the hard work of all parties providing content for the university's website.
'It's not only the work of those in the information and technology division but also the fruit of the hard work of lecturers, students and alumni in providing content for the website,' said Widyawan.
Webometrics arranged the ranking based on its appraisal of the website of each university by using several indicators, including volume, content and visibility as well as the impact of the website on society.
Widyawan said the existence of the ranking agency had led universities across the word to compete to provide good quality web content.
'The universities have also been encouraged to push forward the publishing of research, journals, and international publications on their respective websites and we have always pushed digital openness,' he said. (dyl/ebf)(++++)
