Coinciding with its 70th anniversary, state-owned railway company PT KAI launched a train ticketing machine (TTM) and a digital book titled Jejak Kenangan Kereta Api di Jawa (Tracing the Memory of Railways in Java) in Bandung on Monday.
According to PT KAI president director Edi Sukmoro, the TTM allows passengers to buy tickets between four and 90 days prior to departure for a maximum of four adults and four children.
"Passengers can easily choose the date of their trip, the departure and arrival stations, number of passengers and enter their personal data such as name, identification number, birth date and phone number into the machine," said Edi as quoted by kompas.com.
He added that the machine also enabled passengers to pay directly using debit, credit or prepaid cards without any additional fees.
As a pilot project, the TTM will be available at Gambir Station in Central Jakarta and Bandung Station in West Java.
"Nine machines will be provided at Gambir Station and one will be available at Bandung Station. In the future, we will provide the product at all departure stations," said Edi.
Meanwhile, the digital book tells the history of railways in Indonesia starting from construction plans in the Dutch colonial era until today, PT KAI's role during the independence struggle and heritage assets that are still well preserved by the company.
Downloadable for free on the App Store and Google Play Store, the book is presented in a fully interactive PDF format with pinch-to-zoom features as well as photos, audio and videos. (nov/kes)(++++)
