EMARANG: Semarang Archbishop Mgr Johannes Trilaksyanta Pujasumarta Pr was buried in Yogyakarta on Friday, three days after passing away at the age of 66.

Before being transported to Yogyakarta for burial, the body of Romo Puja, as he was affectionately called, lay in state at Randusari Cathedral in Central Java'€™s provincial capital of Semarang from Wednesday to Thursday. Thousands of people joined the requiem mass held before the body was moved to Kentungan, Yogyakarta.

The archbishop died on Tuesday night at 11:35 p.m. at Elisabeth Hospital in Semarang after receiving intensive treatment for two months.

Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo said the province had lost a tolerant figure who had mingled intensely with adherents of other religions.

'€œHe was a protecting figure. I felt comfortable when meeting him,'€ he said.
