The adjustment was the result of a fare evaluation conducted every two years by reassessing the use of the Sedyatmo toll road, as well as by considering the inflation rate.
The adjustment of rates for the Sedyatmo Toll Road, also known as the airport toll road, which spans 14 kilometers between Jakarta and Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, is expected to spur logistics as new lower fares would provide incentives for large freight vehicles such as container trucks.
The head of the Indonesia Toll Road Authority (BPJT), Danang Parikesit, said recently the rate adjustment, which took effect on May 12, introduced cheaper tolls for vehicles in categories IV and V: four-axled and five-axled trucks that are commonly used to haul freight and for industrial purposes.
The adjustment was the result of a toll evaluation conducted every two years by reassessing the use of the Sedyatmo road, as well as by considering the inflation rate. In the evaluation, the authority found there have been notable changes in the way people use the toll road.
“In the past, the Sedyatmo was mostly used for trips to the airport as that was its original purpose when it first operated. However, there have been changes in land use around the toll road that has also led to changes in how the toll road is used,” he said.
Danang said the Sedyatmo Toll Road is no longer only essential for trips to the airport but now also for freight transport because of the new economic activities emerging in the area around the road. The development of office areas, shopping areas, culinary areas, hotels and warehousing areas have generated new traffic that mostly needs big trucks or containers.
