In West Java and Malang, East Java, the police intercepted dozens of people who were traveling to Jakarta to protest the election results.
housands of supporters of Prabowo Subianto and Sandiaga Uno held a rally in front of the Elections Supervisory Agency’s (Bawaslu) headquarters on Jl. Thamrin in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, calling for the disqualification of incumbent Joko "Jokowi" Widodo from the presidential election because of allegations of electoral fraud.
The protesters, who identified themselves as members of the People's Sovereignty National Movement (GNKR), began the rally at 3 p.m. after arguing with police officers who had blocked the area.
GNKR coordinator Jumhur Hidayat claimed in his speech that around 17 million voters on the permanent voter list (DPT) were not valid and 6.7 million people had been unable to cast their ballots because they had not received a C6 voting invitation form.
"Around 24 million or 17 percent of valid votes may have been used to make Jokowi win. That alone proves fraud [...] There was also evidence of fraud in the vote-counting process at the General Elections Commission [KPU]," Jumhur said.
The GNKR protesters were planning to hold another rally in front of the Bawaslu building on Saturday, he added.
